The gap it closes

Wix Stores’ built-in product options cannot carry a price of their own. Gift wrapping, an engraving, an extended warranty, a printed card: merchants end up creating them as separate products, or writing “add $5 for wrapping” in the description and adjusting orders by hand.

Wix’s own feature-request pages for “selling customizable products” and “additional product options” have been open for years, and the apps that exist either upload files or replace the product page entirely.

Product Add-ons & Extras puts priced extras on the product page you already have, right above Add to Cart, and charges them at checkout as clearly named fees on that product.

How it works

Three steps, then it runs itself.

  1. 01

    Define an extra

A name, a price and the products it belongs to. Three kinds: an extra with one price (gift wrapping, a warranty), a choice between priced options (card design, finish), or text the shopper types (engraving, a monogram) with a character limit you set. Mark it required if they must choose.

  2. 02

It appears above Add to Cart

Shoppers see the extras with “+$5.00” prices and a running extras total. Required extras block the native Add to Cart with a “please choose” message until they are picked.

  3. 03

Charged at checkout, on that line

When the product is added, the chosen extras attach to that cart line and show in the side cart, at checkout and on the order as named fees, engraving text included, so fulfilment sees exactly what was ordered.

How it behaves

The decisions that matter.

  • Prices come from your definitions

The shopper’s browser sends which extras were chosen, never what they cost. The fee is calculated on the server from the extra you defined, so a tampered request cannot change a price.

  • Extras follow the line

Per-unit extras follow the quantity, and removing the product removes its extras. Each selection is keyed to the exact cart line it was added with.

  • Buy Now is handled honestly

Buy Now skips the cart, so it cannot carry extras. The widget hides it on products that have extras (a setting shows it again) rather than silently dropping the fee.

  • A hiccup never blocks a sale

If the fee calculation ever fails, checkout continues without the fee instead of erroring. Losing five dollars of gift wrapping is better than losing the order.

Pricing

Free tier that actually works.

Billed per site through the Wix App Market, monthly or yearly (yearly gets two months free). Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial of Pro. The free plan is deliberately functional and never expires, so the app can prove itself on a real store before you pay for it.

Installing & getting started

  1. Add Product Add-ons & Extras to your Wix site from the App Market and approve the permissions listed below.
  2. Open it from your site dashboard under Apps. It adds the Product-page plugin / Dashboard page / Additional-fees service plugin (cart and checkout calculation).
  3. Follow the three steps above. The free tier covers one active extra (single price or priced choices), shown on the product page and charged automatically at checkout, so you can prove it works before paying.
  4. Stuck? Email [email protected] — two business days response.

Permissions, and why each one

SCOPE.ECOM_ADDITIONAL_FEES.SERVICE_PLUGIN
Provide the extras as additional fees every time Wix calculates a cart or checkout total. This is what puts the fee on the order.
SCOPE.STORES.PRODUCT_READ
Read product names, prices and images for the product picker and the widget.
SCOPE.DC-STORES.READ-PRODUCTS
The same read access on stores running the other Wix Stores catalog version, so both are supported.
SCOPE.STORES.CATALOG_READ_LIMITED
Read the product catalog with the limited scope the product-page widget needs.
SCOPE.CATEGORIES.CATEGORY_READ
List collections so an extra can apply to a whole collection or the entire store (Business).
SCOPE.DC-DATA.READ
Read the add-ons and selections collections the app creates inside your site.
SCOPE.DC-DATA.WRITE
Save extras and record a shopper’s selections to those same collections.
SCOPE.DEV_CENTER.APP-INSTANCE-READ-BASIC-INFO
Read which plan the site is on, to unlock Pro and Business features.

What is stored, and where

  • Extra definitions (name, type, price, choices, products, required flag) are stored in an add-ons collection inside your site, readable by the product page.
  • When a shopper adds a product with extras, the chosen extras and any text they typed are stored in a selections collection, keyed to the cart’s purchase-flow ID and the cart line, so the fee can be calculated at checkout and shown on the order. That collection is privileged: only the app’s backend can read it.
  • No names, emails, addresses or payment details are collected by the app; those stay with Wix. The app sets no cookies and embeds no analytics or advertising.
  • Nothing is copied to any server of ours; the app runs on Wix’s infrastructure and calls only Wix APIs. Uninstalling removes both collections.

Questions people ask.

How does the extra show on the order?

As a named fee on that product’s line, in the side cart, at checkout and on the order. Text extras include what the shopper typed, so “Engraving: Happy birthday” reads exactly like that.

What about Buy Now?

Buy Now skips the cart, so it cannot carry extras. The widget hides it on products with extras by default; a setting shows it again if you prefer.

Are the fees taxed?

Fees are marked taxable, so they follow your store’s tax settings the way the product does.

Can I make an extra compulsory?

Yes. A required extra blocks Add to Cart with a “please choose” message until the shopper picks it.

What if the same product is added twice with different extras?

Wix merges identical products into one cart line, so the latest selection wins for that line. The typed text is part of the fee name, so fulfilment always sees the last one.

Does it work with both Wix Stores catalog versions?

Yes, in the product pickers and on the product page.
