Opening Hours & Open Now
Open, closing soon or closed — worked out on your own clock, with holidays free and no watermark on any plan, ever.

The gap it closes
The app with the base on this shelf is Open Sign, 3.1★ over 34 reviews, and its free plan is a watermark. “why does it say free plan?” is its most-voted review (4 votes). “free version sadly is unusable — The watermark in the free version simply makes the sign unusable”. “Now the sign on the free plan has a watermark on the sign which makes the site look cheap. £3 a month for a hanging sign is a bit too steep to remove two words.” “the free version is completely for nothing”. Six of its fourteen low-star reviews say the same thing.
Its newest unhappy review is somebody leaving over the holidays: “Today, I can’t find a way to add holidays, shutdowns and events without an upgrade, now at $5 per month. Very sad — no longer cool tool.” (2 votes, January 2025). Three more apps on the same shelf charge $6.92, $2.07 and $1.39 a month for the same dates. And its best feature was a dependency that was withdrawn: “Originally, it linked directly to my business google account and used the times posted there live … Then, without notice, they stopped supporting the link to google and all hours had to be entered manually.”
Underneath that, the shelf is a locked door. Five of the eleven apps a site owner actually finds — PurpleBear’s Hours at $7.50 a month, Business Hours at $5.53, StatusBeacon at $5.53, another Business Hours at $4.15, OpenHours at $1.39 — have no free plan at all. One of the two Verified-by-Wix ones sells “Full Design Control” at $6.92 a month with “Limited Design Control” as its free tier. Another prints “Powered by Smartarget” on your site and confines you to the home page until you pay $11.79.
And the oldest complaint of all is that it says the wrong thing. “This is sooooo comfusing that i HATE it — It Says (CLOSED) When I Set It to the OPEN time” (2 votes). “app needs work — the hours do not set and its limited”. Two more people, five years apart, asked for the one thing nobody has built: the ability to change the words. “Is there a way we can change the text of the open and close? We want to use it for live events but we’d prefer the word ‘live’ instead of open”. “I need to say open in Portuguese but this language is not available. So easy to fix.”
How it works
Three steps, then it runs itself.
- 01
Type the week once, the way you actually keep it
As many sets of hours a day as you need — a lunch break, an evening service, a late bar that runs to one in the morning. A day you are shut is a day you are shut. Then the dates that override it: Christmas, a refit, a market day that starts at seven. All of that is on the free plan, because it is the one thing this shelf charges for.
- 02
It works out “open now” on your clock, not the reader’s
Name your timezone once and the status is right for a visitor reading from anywhere. Open now, Closing soon (you choose how many minutes), or Closed — with the line underneath that says what happens next: Closes at 5:30pm, Opens tomorrow at 9am, Opens Monday at 9am. Times are yours as typed and are never converted, and every date calculation is done in a way that survives the clocks going forward.
- 03
Put it anywhere, in whatever shape suits the page
Four arrangements, all free: a big OPEN or CLOSED sign, a boxed card with the week, plain rows, or one line for a header bar. Drag it onto as many pages as you like. Every colour, every corner, 12- or 24-hour, any day as the start of the week — and every word a visitor reads is a field you can rewrite. It runs on Wix Studio, the classic Wix Editor and Wix Harmony.
How it behaves
The decisions that matter.
-
Holidays and one-off dates are free, on every plan
They are the single thing the four usable free tiers on this shelf hold back — $8.31 a month next door, $6.92, $2.07, $1.39 — and they are the reason its newest unhappy reviewer left. A closure, a day with different hours, a fortnight over Christmas: all of it is on the free plan, and nothing in the plan gate can ever quietly re-open a shop on Christmas Day.
-
No watermark and no badge, on any plan, ever
Not on the page, not on a printed sign, not in the editor. Three of the eleven apps a buyer finds here print their own name on the customer’s site until they are paid, and five more simply have no free plan. We have never done either, in thirty listings.
-
Every visitor-facing word is a field you can edit
Say LIVE instead of OPEN. Say it in Portuguese, in Welsh, in German. Two people asked the app next door for exactly this, five years apart, and it has never answered. The day names follow your page’s own language without you typing anything.
-
Design control is free, because charging for it is the trick
One of the two Verified-by-Wix apps on this shelf sells “Full Design Control” at $6.92 a month and calls its free tier “Limited Design Control”. Here all four arrangements, all three state colours, the accent, the corners, the text size, the alignment, the clock and the week’s first day are on the free plan.
-
It asks once, then answers for itself
A placement makes exactly one request — measured on a published page — and then works out open or closed on the page itself, every half minute, with nothing to wait for. A sign left open in a tab overnight is still right in the morning. There is no server of ours in the path and nothing to go stale.
-
It links to nothing that can be withdrawn
No Google account, no external service, no third party at all. The best feature of the app next door was a live link to a business’s Google hours, and it was switched off without notice; its users had to retype everything. A dependency this app never takes cannot be taken away from it.
-
Nothing is stored about a visitor
No cookie, no local storage, no identifier, no counter. A visitor’s browser reads your hours and writes nothing at all. There is no analytics of ours anywhere in this app.
-
Nothing is fetched from anybody else
No fonts, no icon sheets, no trackers, no maps. Every glyph is drawn in the page. The whole widget is your own words and a stylesheet.
-
It is your site’s data, not ours
Your week, your holidays and your wording are rows in collections inside your own site, and CSV export is free on every plan. A change to a Tuesday is live the moment you save it — nothing is cached and nothing needs republishing. Uninstalling leaves the rows where they are.
Pricing
Free tier that actually works.
Billed per site through the Wix App Market, monthly or yearly (yearly saves 20%). Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. The free plan is deliberately functional and never expires, so the app can prove itself on a real site before you pay for it.

Installing & getting started
- Add Opening Hours & Open Now to your Wix site from the App Market and approve the permissions listed below.
- Open it from your site dashboard under Apps. It adds the Opening hours & open now element (editor widget, any page, any number of times) / Dashboard page.
- Follow the three steps above. The free tier covers the whole week with as many sets of hours a day as you keep, hours that run past midnight, open / closing soon / closed worked out in your own timezone, the next-change line, holidays and one-off dates, all four arrangements, every colour and every design control, all of your own wording, 12- or 24-hour, any first day of the week, an address, a button in five modes, and CSV export, so you can prove it works before paying.

What is stored, and where
- Your opening hours — the week, its shifts and notes, your holidays and special dates, your timezone, your wording and your design — are stored in collections inside your own site.
- Nothing about a visitor is stored, anywhere. No cookie, no local storage, no identifier, and no counter of any kind: a visitor’s browser reads your hours and writes nothing back.
- The widget makes one request per placement to fetch your hours and then computes the status on the page itself. It contacts no third party, and no external service holds a copy of your hours.
- Uninstalling removes the app’s collections. Nothing else on your site is touched.

Questions people ask.
Do I have to pay for holiday hours?
No. Closures, one-off days with different hours and whole fortnights are on the free plan. That is the one thing the apps on this shelf with a usable free tier all charge for — between $1.39 and $8.31 a month — and it is the reason the biggest one’s newest unhappy reviewer left.
Is there a watermark on the free plan?
No, and there is no badge, no “powered by” line and no logo of ours on any plan, ever. Three of the apps a buyer finds here print their own name on the customer’s website until they are paid.
Will it say the right thing if my visitors are in another country?
Yes, as long as you name your timezone — which is free on every plan. Open now is then worked out where your business is, not where the reader is. Leave it empty and it uses the reader’s own clock, which is right for a corner shop and wrong for anybody with customers elsewhere; the dashboard says so beside the field.
Can I change the words?
All of them. Open, Closed, Closing soon, Closes at, Opens tomorrow at, Open 24 hours, the holiday lines, the button — every one is a field. Say LIVE instead of OPEN for a broadcast, or say it in Portuguese. Day names follow your page’s own language on their own.
Can it handle a lunch break, or a bar open past midnight?
Yes. A day holds as many sets of hours as you need, and a shift typed 22:00 to 02:00 is understood as running into the next morning — so the sign still says open at one o’clock.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. On a narrow element the week stacks — the day above its hours — with no horizontal scrolling anywhere. It was measured on a real phone layout on a published site.
Does it work on Wix Studio?
Yes. It is a custom element, so it runs on Wix Studio, the classic Wix Editor and Wix Harmony — the same app, the same settings panel. It was built and verified on a published Wix Studio site and on a published classic Wix site.
