The gap it closes

Wix’s own members area is 3.3★ over 728 reviews, and its most-voted review of all — 25 votes, from a coaching business — is “Why do members see eachother? It’s a pity that I can’t choose whether members see eachother or not. I want them to access content, but not to see eachother for obvious confidentiality reasons.” A directory built on that platform has to start from consent, not from a list.

The largest single cluster underneath is spam, and it is about sixty-five votes across five reviews. “BEWARE!!!! SPAM CENTRAL — Spammers can and will use your members pages to create relinking profiles and damage your SEO and page ranking. HORRIBLE!!!” (13👍) · “Every account is spam with a Russian email address” (13👍) · “Didn’t add it, can’t remove it, SPAM galore … it is also placing weird links onto my site via comments by users/subscribers” (16👍) · “TOo many phising members … It is very annoying!!!” (12👍). And in August 2026: “Beware: Possible Malware Issues — I just noticed that there were several sexual images of women that I know I didn’t add in my media library … they are coming from the Visitor Upload section which I didn’t even know existed. There doesn’t seem to be a way to disable allowing visitors to upload files.”

Then the things a member cannot do to their own entry. “We need a ‘delete my profile’ botton!” (10👍) · “Member cannot update/change their username at all. Members cannot change their display name.” (12👍) · June 2026: “The users cannot delete their accounts.” And the things the owner cannot do: “Needs custom pages for individual members” (20👍) · “Needs User Levels” (16👍) · “I cannot stand this app! Nothing can be edited without the page crashing” (16👍) · “lack of common sense in flow … you don’t have the layout choice as you do with other pages” (13👍).

It is also slow, and a customer measured it. July 2026, in Portuguese: “O TTFB da home aumenta para ~4.000ms para página renderizada do zero, sem cache. O sistema precisa verificar o status de login de cada visitante… Se você não precisa de área de membros e login, desinstale esse app.” A second reviewer, 11 votes: “It slows down the site a lot.” And a non-profit running about three hundred members, October 2026: “there are no reports available about members … can’t enforce that all members have an active subscription to a plan, or even filter for members who don’t.”

The shelf beside it is empty and expensive. Fifteen phrases a buyer types were run on build day: membership directory, profile page, business directory, community directory, club members, member management and alumni return nothing real at all; roster returns two cards in total; and directory returns 23 cards of which two are real — one of them our own Team & Staff Directory. The single real rival on this object, The Member Hub, has no free plan whatsoever: a 14-day trial and then $13.91 a month, with “Member directory w/ opt-in visibility” as a paid bullet. The three neighbouring team-directory apps ration the thing they are by a count — 4 entries free then $3.61, $7.78 and $14.75 — print “Purple watermark on site” on every free customer’s website, or take no free customers at all.

How it works

Three steps, then it runs itself.

  1. 01

    Members write their own

A member signs in with your site’s own login — there is no second account and no sign-up email — presses “Add my profile”, and writes a name, a line under it, something about themselves, where they are, a photograph and a few links. They can change any of it whenever they like, and take the whole thing down again with two presses.

  2. 02

You approve, and you can take anything down

Nothing new appears on the page until you approve it, on the free plan. The queue is the first card in your dashboard. You can hold every change rather than just the first one, close the directory to new profiles, edit anybody’s entry, take one down, or remove it outright.

  3. 03

Put it wherever you want it

It is an ordinary element: drag it where you like, resize it, put it on as many pages as you like. Four arrangements — cards, a row for each person, one compact line for a long list, or a wall of faces — and every design control, free. It creates no page and adds nothing to your menu.

How it behaves

The decisions that matter.

  • No cap on members, on any plan

Not on the free plan, not on any plan. A cap here means turning members away. The one real rival on this shelf takes no free customers at all; the nearest neighbours ration entries at 3, 4 and 6.

  • Every member chooses what is shown, field by field

A line about themselves, where they are, a photograph, links, and any question you add — each has its own switch. Anything switched off never leaves the server, so it is not in the page for anybody to read, and it cannot be found by searching either. Measured on a published page: a member whose location is Marsh End and who switched it off does not appear when a reader searches “marsh”.

  • Nothing appears until you approve it

On the free plan. The biggest cluster of complaints next door is spam and fake profiles — about sixty-five votes across five reviews — and one rival paywalls its own moderation dashboard, which is the exact feature those reviewers left over.

  • A member can remove their own profile, in two presses

The row is deleted, not hidden. “We need a ‘delete my profile’ botton!” has ten votes on the app this replaces, and its 2026 companion is “The users cannot delete their accounts.”

  • Nothing is ever uploaded to this app

A photograph is a web address a member pastes, checked before it is accepted. There is no upload path at all, which is why the August 2026 review next door — somebody finding pornography in their own media library, put there through a visitor upload — cannot happen here.

  • No profile is ever turned into structured data

And every link a member publishes is marked so it passes no ranking to anybody. These are private people who joined a club, not a business’s staff. The worst review on the shelf is about spammers using member pages to build relinking profiles; a link that passes nothing is a link nobody bothers to plant.

  • Whose profile it is comes out of the token, not the page

The server asks Wix who is calling and gets the answer from the signed token. Nothing a browser can type decides whose entry it is allowed to edit, and a members-only directory is refused before a single profile is read — not hidden with a class once the page already has them.

  • It sends no email to anybody, ever

No welcome mail, no notification, no digest, no mail server of ours. Two of the loudest complaints on the platform next door are a mail engine misfiring — “it sent HUNDREDS of emails out to my members” — and one that cannot be switched off.

  • One request per placement

Measured on a published page: exactly one call for the whole directory, and then zero more for searching, filtering by group, changing the order, or opening three profiles one after another. A customer measured the app this replaces adding about four seconds to their own home page.

  • No badge and no watermark, on any plan, ever

Not on the page, not in the editor. A neighbouring app prints “Purple watermark on site” on every free customer’s website and charges $11.14 a month to take it off.

  • It reads on a dark site, and on a phone

By default it paints no background of its own and takes its text colour from your page. On a phone it narrows to one column — measured on the width of the element rather than the width of the screen, because a phone page is drawn in a 980-pixel window, so anything measured against the screen is wrong on a telephone.

  • Every visitor-facing word is yours

All fifty of them, on the free plan — including a separate word for one and for more than one, because English’s rule is not everybody’s. A French customer’s review next door is a translated site whose members area ignores the translation.

Pricing

Free tier that actually works.

Billed per site through the Wix App Market, monthly or yearly (yearly saves 20%). Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. The free plan is deliberately functional and never expires, so the app can prove itself on a real site before you pay for it.

Documentation & data handling

Everything it touches, stated plainly.

Installing & getting started

  1. Add Member Profiles & Directory to your Wix site from the App Market and approve the permissions listed below.
  2. Open it from your site dashboard under Apps. It adds the Member directory element (editor widget, any page, any number of times) / Dashboard page.
  3. Follow the three steps above. The free tier covers one directory with no cap on members, members writing and editing their own profiles and removing them in two presses, the whole approval queue, per-field opt-in on everything, all four arrangements — cards, a row each, one compact line and a wall of faces — every design control including colours that follow a dark site, search, a profile that opens in place with a readable address, a link guard on everything a member publishes, every visitor-facing word editable, CSV export, and no badge on any plan, ever, so you can prove it works before paying.
  4. Stuck? Email [email protected] — two business days response.

What is stored, and where

  • Every profile is an ordinary row in a collection inside your own site, and is exportable to a CSV at any time on any plan. Nothing of yours is held anywhere else.
  • The site owner is the controller of this information and we are the processor. What is stored is what a member chose to put on a web page about themselves, plus a switch per field saying whether they meant it to be seen.
  • The app holds no password, no email address, no telephone number and no home address, because it never asks for one. A member is identified only by the pseudonymous member id your site already has.
  • Nothing is ever uploaded. A photograph is a web address a member pastes, and it is checked before it is accepted.
  • No profile is emitted as structured data, and every link a member publishes is marked so it passes no ranking to anybody.
  • Nothing is written to a reader’s device: no cookie, no local storage, no session and no identifier. On Business, where opens are counted, one row records that a profile was opened and when, with no reader identifier of any kind — and on every other plan that request is not made at all.
  • A member can remove their own profile at any time, which deletes the row. Uninstalling removes the app’s collections; nothing else on your site is touched.

Questions people ask.

Who writes the profiles?

The members do. Somebody signs in with your site’s own login, presses “Add my profile” and writes their own entry — a name, a line under it, something about themselves, where they are, a photograph and a few links — and can change any of it whenever they like. If you would rather type the list yourself, that is a different app: Team & Staff Directory.

Do members need a second account?

No. They sign in with your site’s own login, which they may already have. This app never registers anybody, never stores a password, and never sends a sign-up email.

Can I stop something appearing before I have seen it?

Yes, and it is on the free plan. Nothing new appears until you approve it. You can hold every change rather than just the first one, close the directory to new profiles entirely, edit anybody’s entry, take one down, or remove it.

Can a member keep something private?

Yes, field by field. A line about themselves, where they are, a photograph, links and any question you add each have their own switch. Anything switched off never leaves the server, so it is not in the page for anybody to read — and a reader cannot find that member by searching for it either.

Is there a limit on how many members?

No, on any plan. A cap would mean turning members away, which is the failure this app exists to avoid. The one real rival on this shelf has no free plan at all, and the nearest neighbours ration entries at three, four and six.

How do photographs work?

A member pastes the web address of a picture that is already online, and the app checks it before accepting it. Nothing is ever uploaded here. That is deliberate: a review on the app this replaces, from August 2026, is somebody who found pornography in their own media library, put there through a visitor upload they did not know existed.

Will a member’s profile show up in Google?

The profiles are drawn on your page like anything else, but the app never emits structured data about a person and every link a member publishes is marked so it passes no ranking to anybody. These are private people who joined a club, and the worst review on this shelf is about spammers using member pages to build relinking profiles.

Can I hide the whole directory from the public?

Yes, on Pro. A members-only directory is refused on the server: a signed-out visitor is never sent a single profile, rather than being shown a page with the profiles already in it and a class hiding them.

Does it email my members?

Never. No welcome mail, no notification, no digest. Two of the loudest complaints on the platform this replaces are a mail engine misfiring — one reviewer’s members area sent hundreds of emails — and one that cannot be switched off.

Is there a watermark or a badge on the free plan?

No, and there is none on any plan, ever. A neighbouring app prints “Purple watermark on site” on every free customer’s website and charges $11.14 a month to remove it.

What happens if I stop using the app?

Every profile is an ordinary row in your own site’s data, exportable to a CSV at any time on any plan. Uninstalling removes the app’s collections and touches nothing else.

Does it work on Wix Studio?

Yes. It is a custom element, so it runs on Wix Studio, the classic Wix Editor and Wix Harmony — the same app and the same settings panel. It was built and verified on a published Wix Studio page and on a published classic Wix page, with a real site member signing in and writing their own profile.
