The gap it closes
The app most Wix sites reach for is Wix File Share, 3.1★ over 460 reviews, and its most-voted complaint is that it shows people things they cannot open: “Permission View Filter — it would be ideal if only the folders that the member has permission to see are the only ones that show up for them to select. There is no need for them to see that there are other folders in the system when they cant access them.” (13👍) Underneath it, the lock itself: “Files are not and cannot be set to private and can be viewed by ALL site members … As a personal coach who needs to constantly share private and personalized plans to my clients, I REALLY wanted to love this app but, it is entirely useless” (8👍) · “Permissions does NOT work :( — All site member can see and download everything even if you set folder to individual member” (6👍) · “there is no way to limit which members can see files, its either make it all public or give access to one member” (5👍). And in May 2026: “Zero Security for File Sharing — Someone one client uploaded private documents into another client’s private folder. This is unacceptable and appalling. There is no level of security in this platform.”
The second half of that review set is the exact opposite complaint, and it is nearly as large. “Website viewers require a login to see files — cant publically host pdfs” (7👍) · “Great in Theory — It looked great until I had everything uploaded and sent my students to find the files. They can’t open them without having to sign up for an account. What the heck? Every permission I can find says any site visitor, yet it still won’t work.” (6👍) · “Not suitable for public file share” (4👍) · “permissions set for anyone to use without sign in, however when folder or file is clicked on it asked for user to sign up” (4👍). One app is failing at both jobs at once, which is what happens when a folder-by-member permission matrix is the only idea in the product.
Meanwhile Wix retired the two apps people were actually using. Dropbox Folder was shut on 2 May 2025 and the Google Drive app followed in 2026, and both exits pointed customers at AnyFile, which connects to neither. That review page is a queue of stranded people still arriving in June 2026, in five languages: “BRING BACK DROPBOX!” (12👍) · “HUGE Disappointment!!! This Dropbox replacement is horrible.” (8👍) · “Won’t sync with Google Drive … so this is useless to me” (8👍) · “WiX have advised that they are dropping support for the GoogleDrive app and are recommending AnyFile as a replacement — that’s a dreadful recommendation” (7👍) · “It requires us to load every file onto the website rather than just pointing to where the file is stored in Dropbox. It doubles our work.” (6👍).
And one of those reviewers wrote this app’s architecture down while giving that one a single star: “Free version is very limited by features and storage. It only allows to manually upload files to the app’s storage (20MB max) … Instead you can refer your files directly from your Google Drive in a usual text box, without the size limits and with full text formatting.” (5👍) That is exactly what this app does. It never receives an upload and never holds a copy: a file is a web address you already have.
The shelf is also priced entirely in gigabytes. Fifteen phrases a buyer types were run on build day: customer portal, file delivery, secure file sharing, client area, deliver files, file transfer, document delivery, private download and shared folder return nothing real at all, and client portal returns three real apps, every one of them with zero reviews. What those three sell is storage: one gives 1 GB and a single client space free and charges $12.53 and $26.46 a month for more; another gives 1 GB and three spaces and runs to $68.23 a month for a terabyte; the third takes no free customers at all and tops out at $416.36 a month. A storage ladder is not a ladder this app is on, because there is no storage.

Make a delivery for one client
Name it after the client, add a covering note and your own reference, and paste in the files — each one a web address you already have, from your own media library, a storage service, a shared document, anywhere. Nothing is uploaded here and nothing is copied, so there is no size to worry about and no quota to run out of.

Choose one of two locks, or neither
A private link, which is a long random code nobody needs an account to use — or the site members you name, which the server checks against the signed-in identity Wix itself issues, on every single request. Or choose no lock at all and publish a page anybody can open, which is the other half of the complaint next door.

Put it on any page, and close it whenever you like
Drag the element onto a page, choose the delivery, and send your client the address. Withdrawing it, giving it a closing date, or issuing a fresh link that stops the old one working are all free on every plan and always will be — a lapsed subscription must never re-open something you shut.

A refused visitor is sent nothing at all
Not the files, not the client’s name, not your reference, not the covering note, not even how many files there are. The gate runs on the server before a single file is read, so there is no “view source” story. Measured on a published page: with the delivery locked, the client’s name appears nowhere in the document.

Two locks, and no folder-permission matrix
A private link or the site members you name — and deliberately nothing else. A matrix of folders against members against verbs is what produced every one of the security reviews on the app this replaces, including one where a client’s private documents turned up in another client’s folder.

Who somebody is comes out of the token Wix signed
Not from the page, not from a query string, not from anything a browser can type. Measured on a published page with two real site members signed in at the same time: the named one saw their own delivery; the other was told it belongs to somebody else and was sent nothing.

Nothing is ever uploaded to this app
A file is a web address you already have. There is no storage plan, no size limit, no refused file type and no second copy of your client’s papers anywhere. Every paid tier on this shelf is gigabytes; this app is not on that ladder at all.

Closing a delivery is free, on every plan, for ever
Withdraw it, give it a closing date, or issue a fresh link that stops the old one working at once. None of the three is gated, counted, or affected by a plan lapsing. A security control behind a price is a subscription that quietly re-opens something its owner had shut.

The link never travels to anybody else’s server
A private delivery carries its code in the address of the page your client is standing on, and an ordinary link would hand that to every file host in a Referer header. Every link this app draws is marked so the address is never sent. The delivery itself is marked never to be stored by any cache.

No cap on deliveries, files or clients
On any plan. The two rivals with a free tier allow one client space and three; the third has no free tier at all.

One request per placement
Measured on a published page: exactly one call for the whole delivery, and then zero more for searching it, filtering it, changing the order, or opening a file. And zero requests to anybody but this app — no fonts, no icon service, no analytics. A four-vote review next door is a plug-in quietly loading Google Fonts in the background.

No notification when you add a file, no reminder, no mail server of ours. It is a request on the shelf next door, and it is refused on purpose: a mail engine that misfires is the most common way an app like this ends up with one-star reviews.

It reads on a dark site, and on a phone
By default it paints no background of its own and takes its text colour from your page. On a phone it narrows to one column — measured on the width of the element rather than the width of the screen, because a phone page is drawn in a 980-pixel window, so anything measured against the screen is wrong on a telephone.

Including the sentence a client reads when they cannot get in, which is the one message they are most likely to see. Fifty fields, on the free plan, with a separate word for one file and for several, because English’s rule is not everybody’s.

- Open it from your site dashboard under Apps. It adds the Client portal element (editor widget, any page, any number of times) / Dashboard page.

What is stored, and where
- Every delivery and every file entry is an ordinary row in a collection inside your own site, and is exportable to a CSV at any time on any plan. Nothing of yours is held anywhere else.
- No file is ever uploaded, stored, copied or fetched by this app. A file is a web address you already have; the app draws a link to it and nothing more.
- The private code for a link delivery lives in your own site’s data alongside everything else. It is never put into a widget attribute, never placed on a query string, never written to a log, and never included in anything a refused visitor is sent.
- When a delivery is locked to site members, the app compares the member id in the token Wix signed for the request. It holds no password, no email address and no name of your client beyond what you typed on the delivery yourself.
- Nothing is written to a reader’s device: no cookie, no local storage, no session and no identifier. Where you switch the access record on, one row records which file was opened, whether it was opened by a signed-in member, by the link or off an open page, and when — with no reader identifier of any kind, and your client is told on the page that it is happening.
- Every response carries no-store, so a private delivery is never kept by a browser or by anything between you and it.
- Uninstalling removes the app’s collections; nothing else on your site is touched, and no file of yours is affected because none of them was ever here.

Questions people ask.
How is this different from your Downloads & Document Library?
Downloads & Document Library is one library that everybody sees — a handbook, a price list, a form, open to any visitor with no sign-in. This is the opposite job: one private bundle per client, where the files never leave the server until the right person asks, and each client sees only their own. If you want one public shelf of files, use that one. If you want to send a particular client a particular set of documents, use this.
Do my clients need an account?
Only if you want them to. A delivery locked to a private link needs no account at all — you send them an address and they open it. A delivery locked to named site members uses your site’s own login. Both are free.
Where are the files actually stored?
Wherever they already are. You paste a web address — your own media library, a storage service, a shared document, anything with a link — and the app draws a link to it. It never receives an upload and never keeps a copy, which is why there is no storage limit, no file size to worry about, and no second copy of your client’s papers anywhere.
Can one client see another client’s files?
No, and that is the whole app. Each delivery has one audience, and a visitor who is not in it is sent nothing at all — not the files, not the client’s name, not even how many files there are. Where the audience is named site members, the app takes the identity from the token Wix signed for the request, so nothing a browser can type changes the answer.
What if a link gets forwarded?
Issue a new one. It is one press, it is free on every plan, and the old address stops working immediately. You can also give any delivery a closing date, or withdraw it outright — both also free, on every plan, for ever.
Is the private link safe to send by email?
It is as safe as the files themselves: anyone holding it can open that delivery, exactly as anyone holding an attachment can read it. What the app guarantees is that the code never leaks from its end — it is never put in the page source, never on a query string of ours, never written to a log, and every link it draws is marked so the address of the page is never sent on to the file’s host. If you want something only one named person can open, use the members lock instead.
Can I publish files with no lock at all?
Yes, and it is free. That is the second half of the complaint on the app this replaces: seven votes for “Website viewers require a login to see files — cant publically host pdfs”, and six more for students who could not open anything without signing up. Choose “Anybody” and there is no gate and nobody is ever asked to sign in.
Does it email my clients when I add a file?
