The gap it closes

monday’s Activity Log can undo a change one entry at a time. That is fine for a typo and hopeless when an automation, an integration or an AI agent has just rewritten a column across dozens of items.

Restoring from a backup is the other option, and it rolls back everything else that happened on the board too.

Board Undo reverts exactly the changes you pick, minutes after they happened, with no backup needed.

How it works

Three steps, then it runs itself.

  1. 01

    Open the Board Undo view

Add it to any board as a view. It lists every recent change on the board and its subitems, newest first: column values, names, group moves, new items and more, and keeps the list current while it is open.

  2. 02

    Narrow it down

Pick a time window and a person, or describe it in plain language, for example “the status changes the automation made after 2pm”, and monday AI ticks the matching changes.

  3. 03

    Click Undo selected

Every ticked change is reverted with your own monday permissions and appears in the activity log under your name.

How it behaves

The decisions that matter.

  • Nothing is ever deleted

An item that was created by mistake is archived, which monday lets you restore. It is never deleted.

  • It never guesses

It restores 21 column types exactly. Anything it can’t restore exactly, such as a deleted item, is listed with where to restore it in monday instead of being overwritten with a best guess.

  • Nothing happens without your click

AI only selects or summarises. The undo runs when you press the button, and not before.

  • The same change cannot be undone twice

Reverted changes are badged and locked, so a second click cannot flip them back.

Step-by-step guide: How to use Board Undo

Permissions, and why each one

boards:read
Read the board’s activity log to list recent changes, and the board’s members to show their names.
boards:write
Apply the reverts you confirm, as you, so each one appears in the activity log under your name.
ai:consume
The AI summary and plain-language selection use monday AI (run_prompt) with your session. Usage draws on your account’s own AI credits; there is no outside AI provider.

What is stored, and where

  • The view runs in your browser with your own monday session. There is no backend data path: the app’s server only serves the view’s files.
  • The only thing stored is the list of change IDs the view has already reverted (at most 500), kept in monday’s own storage for that board view so a change cannot be undone twice. No names, emails or item contents. “Clear history” in the view deletes it.
  • AI requests contain only the change descriptions already shown in the view, and go to monday AI. The app contacts no third-party domains and uses no cookies, analytics or trackers.
  • Uninstalling revokes the app’s permissions immediately.

Questions people ask.

How is this different from monday’s own undo?

monday’s Activity Log undoes one entry at a time. Board Undo lists everything in a time window, filters it by person or by a plain-language description, and reverts the whole selection at once.

Can it undo changes made by automations and integrations?

Yes. Column changes (21 column types, including status, people, dates, timelines, dropdowns, tags, links and connected items), renames, group moves and new items are reverted whoever or whatever made them, on the board and on its subitems.

What can’t it undo?

Deleted and archived items (an app can’t bring them back, so restore them from Trash or the board’s archive), files, and calculated columns such as formulas. Board Undo still lists each of these, with where to restore it in monday. A change on an item, column or group that has since been archived or deleted is explained instead of attempted: restore it first, then undo the change.

Who can use it?

Members and admins who can edit the board. Viewers can’t change a board and monday doesn’t give viewer accounts API access, and guests are outside the account, so for them the view shows a short message explaining this and who to ask instead.

Does it work on big boards?

Yes. It reads the board’s activity log rather than its items, so a board with thousands of items loads as fast as a small one. On a very busy board it shows the newest few thousand changes first and Load older changes reads the rest of the window; long lists show more rows as you scroll, and large undos run in batches you can stop at any point.

Does the AI cost anything?

AI features use your account’s monday AI credits. Without credits, the summary and selection fall back to standard versions, so nothing stops working.
