The gap it closes
monday’s native recurrence cannot say “every 4 July”, “the last Friday of the month”, “every custom quarter”, or “skip it if it lands on a weekend”.
The workaround documented repeatedly in the monday community is to pre-create an entire year of items in advance and auto-move them into an active group. That is a spreadsheet habit, not a workflow.
Recurring Items Pro is the engine that should have been there: define the schedule once, and the right items appear on the right days.

Describe the real schedule
Daily, weekly on chosen days, monthly by date, monthly by nth weekday, last day of month, quarterly, yearly, or every N months — with an optional end date and a weekend rule.

Preview before you commit
The next occurrences are listed as you build the rule, so you can see “3rd Tuesday” actually resolving to real dates before anything is created.

Items appear on schedule
Each occurrence duplicates your template item — keeping its subitems — stamps the occurrence date, resets the columns you choose, and drops it in the right group.
How it behaves

It will not double-create
Every occurrence a schedule has already produced is recorded and skipped forever after. Retries, duplicate triggers and manual “run now” are all safe.

It catches up after downtime
A 32-day lookback means an outage does not silently lose items — the next run creates every occurrence that was missed.

Month-end clamping recovers
A 31st-of-the-month rule goes Jan 31 → Feb 28 → Mar 31. It does not degrade to the 28th forever, which is the classic bug in recurrence engines. Leap years are handled.

A rule that produces nothing is rejected
If a schedule would generate no occurrences, it is refused at save time with an explanation, rather than saving quietly and never firing.

Installing & getting started
- Install Recurring Items Pro into your monday.com account and approve the permissions listed below.
- Open the board you want it on and add the app’s Board View / Automation block.
- Follow the three steps above. The free tier covers 1 active schedule — fully functional, on one board, so you can prove it works before paying.

Permissions, and why each one
me:read- Identify the installing account so schedules are stored against it.
boards:read- Read the board’s columns and groups to build the schedule, and read the template item to duplicate it.
boards:write- Create the recurring items and set their column values — the core function of the app.
updates:write- Post a note when a scheduled run creates items, so the activity is visible on the board.
What is stored, and where
- Schedule definitions and the list of occurrence dates already created are stored in monday’s own app storage, inside your account.
- No board data or personal information is copied to any third-party server.
- The app runs entirely on monday code — monday.com’s own infrastructure. There is no external database.
- Occurrence history is capped per schedule so stored data cannot grow without bound.

Questions people ask.
What happens to the subitems on my template?
They come with it. The app duplicates the template item rather than creating a blank one, which is how checklists survive.
Can it skip weekends?
Yes — leave it, move to the next weekday, move to the previous weekday, or skip that occurrence entirely.
What if monday is down when an item is due?
Nothing is lost. The next run looks back 32 days and creates everything that was missed.
Will it create duplicates if the automation fires twice?
No. Each occurrence date is recorded once and never produced again.
